Abi Elphinstone - PRIVATE INTERVIEW!!!
I've been keeping in touch with the marvellous Abi Elphinstone. I had a private interview with her:
- Who illustrates the covers of your books and will they help with your next books as well?
Thomas Flintham illustrates the books for this trilogy. I especially love his maps inside - they're full of adventure and daring and perfectly capture the spirit of the books. I think for my next book, out in January, I might be working with another illustrator though.
- What was your favourite book growing up?
My favourite series was The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy and my favourite book was Northern Lights by Philip Pullman.
- What's your favourite book now?
The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell.
- Who was your favourite author and favourite illustrator when you were growing up?
In addition to the authors already listed: CS Lewis, Sylvia Waugh, Anne Fine and Eva Ibbotson. My favourite illustrator was Chris Riddell.
- Who's your favourite illustrator now?
Jackie Morris. She does incredible dragons and snow leopards.
- What inspired you to be an author?
The landscape where I grew up in Scotland. The wild moors, icy lochs and sprawling glens provided an incredible platform for both adventures and ideas for stories.
- What kind of environment do you like to be in when you write your stories?
Somewhere quiet with a view of the trees. My favourite spot to write is inside my writing shed in my garden.
Abi is sadly in hospital right now, recovering from pneumonia. After that, she'll be having a baby! I bet it will be as fluent at writing as her!
More exciting news from Abi to come!
