YOUNG WRITERS 2017 - CRAZY CREATURES!
In early December, 2016, my school handed out some entry forms for a writing competition. Of course, I was interested and went to the meeting about it. It was for KS2 only, (year 3 to year 6) still, about 30 came. It was called 'Crazy Creatures'. Given the entry, I immediate started drawing and sketching ideas for my Crazy Creature. At first I didn't have a clue what to do. Eventually, the idea hit me. A teleporting sneeze?! I stayed up a little late writing, drafting, rewriting and redrafting.
The entry required a story, a picture of the Crazy Creature and your details. All stories had to be a mini saga to be accepted. A mini saga is a 100 word story, it could just be a small, short paragraph of a longer story. (like mine is) So, I filled in everything, and sent it off before Christmas, as the deadline date was just before christmas.
Here is my mini saga:
Some of the children that took an entry form didn't do it. Quite a few children did it, I waited for what seemed like ages for news. In March I got letter from young writers group saying mine had been selected for a regional book to be published in May 2017. Each entry stood on their stand on own merit and had to meet the criteria the judges were looking for.
My first story published in a book and I am so excited. The judges has over 40,000 entries this year, the most they had ever had. Lots of other children from my school also got chosen for the book. In my pack I got:
I'm so excited for book come out with mine and my friends stories in it. I'm very pleased I entered the competition and took the time to think about my character and the story. The redrafting and playing with the words to make it 100 and good was tough, but it has paid off. I will blog again showing the mini saga in the book when its published in May!!!!!

Sneeze, the Accendo dragon was on a long
journey to the frozen fjords. He was making his way to the tundra plains
leisurely with every ambling step. Sneeze had purple fur over the middle of his
body and a scaly tail with an arrow head at the end. He was a gentle beast, as
was befitting of his breed.
He was migrating because Lava Mountain had
become too hot during summer. Accendos would go to cold climates to freeze
their body in suspended animation until the lava cooled down.
Sneeze would teleport when he
sneezed. Achooo, where had he gone?

ReplyDeleteI bought my book from online..... Id recommend entering next time as its harder than it looks to just write 100 words. Normally, I write a whole novel.
ReplyDeletehello, I am Brynn and I very much enjoy writing short stories and I am also one of the contest winners I was wondering if I could write a piece for your blog, kind of like a multiple paragraph story, let me know when ever
